Create an Automated Image Slideshow with Meta Text

Use metadata to automate slideshows

If your radio station works with a large collection of images, like photos of presenters, show thumbnails, or landscape visuals, you can now put that media to better use. Visual Radio Assist now allows you to display a fully automated slideshow using metadata attached to each image in your media library.

This makes it easy to turn a basic media folder into a dynamic, visually rich visual element for your broadcast, ideal for screen overlays, full-screen transitions, or station branding.

Use Metadata to Power Visual Radio Slideshows

The new metadata functionality enables station managers to define their own custom metadata fields for every media asset in the Visual Radio Cloud platform. Whether you're tagging photos with presenter names, show titles, or copyright info, these metadata tags are accessible and ready to be displayed in your Visuals.

This feature is especially useful for stations that want to showcase a presenter lineup, artist info, or themed image slideshows during live playout.

Step-by-Step: Set Up Your Metadata Slideshow

Here’s how you can use metadata to display automatic slideshows with images and text in your Visual Radio station setup:

1. Create Custom Metadata Fields

Navigate to your Media Settings in the Cloud environment. Here, station managers can define custom fields such as:

  • Presenter Name

  • Show Title

  • Location

  • Description

You can also use predefined IPTC4 fields, a widely accepted metadata standard that includes tags like title, creator, copyright, and keywords.

2. Tag Your Media

Upload your images into a new folder inside the Media Hub. After uploading, fill in the metadata fields for each image.

3. Build the Slideshow in a Visual

Go to the Visual Designer and create a new visual. Add a Playlist Layer and open the properties panel.

  • Select the Data Selector

  • Tick the Media selector box

  • Choose the folder you just created with your tagged images

Now add two layers inside the Playlist Layer:

  • Dynamic Media Layer: Set the content to {{item.url}}

  • Text Layer: Select the item field via the Data Selector

    • Or set the content to {{ item.metadata.[your_field_name] }}

4. Design and Deploy

Add transitions, styles, or additional branding graphics. Your metadata-powered slideshow is now ready for use in your live broadcasting tools.
