How Blackmagic Videohub and VRA work together.
Choose the source and destination
VRA reads the Videohub input and output labels and exposes a command for routing a chosen input to a chosen output.
Routes can be part of a macro
A router change can run alongside camera, graphics or switcher steps, which keeps a repeatable studio reconfiguration in one VRA macro.
Current routes remain visible
The connection tracks the Videohub matrix so the control workflow starts from the router's actual state rather than an assumed route.
Routing stays separate from mixing
Videohub selects where an SDI signal goes. A vMix, OBS or ATEM connection handles programme cuts, transitions and layers.
How to set it up.
Requirements
- A Blackmagic Videohub reachable from VRA Core.
- TCP access to the Videohub control port, normally
9990. - Clearly labelled router inputs and outputs so operators can review each route safely.
Give the Videohub a stable address on the production network and confirm its input and output labels in Blackmagic Videohub Setup.
In VRA, add a Blackmagic Videohub connection.
Enter the router host and its control port. The default port is
9990.Save and wait for VRA to read the matrix labels and current routes.
Create a test command that sends one known input to one safe output. Verify the destination before adding routes to macros.
Blackmagic Videohub questions
Does Videohub provide production mixer controls in VRA? +
VRA uses Videohub for input-to-output routing. Programme and preview buses, production transitions and downstream keys are controlled through a separate production switcher connection.
Which port does the Videohub connection use? +
The default Videohub control port is TCP 9990. Use the configured port when your router has been set up differently.
Can a route be automated? +
Yes. Put the input-to-output command in a VRA macro or automation, and test it against a safe output before using it in the programme path.
Does VRA transport the SDI video? +
No. Video stays in the Videohub hardware and cabling. VRA sends only the routing instruction over the control network.
