vMix automated camera switching and graphics
Switch vMix cameras from the studio microphones and put VRA graphics over the picture. VRA controls the inputs, overlays and recording, while vMix keeps mixing and streaming your show.

How vMix and VRA work together.
Cameras switch themselves
A microphone trigger, rule or rundown item can select the matching vMix input. Configure the shots and timing in VRA, with manual control available during the show.
Graphics as one NDI input
The VRA Output Player renders the on-air graphics and hands them to vMix as an NDI input, toggled on and off as a vMix overlay.
Recording and streaming from the rundown
A rundown item or a command starts and stops vMix recording, streaming and external output at the moment the show needs it.
Run a vMix script by name
Anything you already scripted in vMix can fire from VRA as a command, with the script name as the only setting.
Recording status in Clips
Clips shows vMix tally, recording and streaming state, version and edition in real time, and can start or stop the recording from its own banner.
Recordings land in Clips as they finish
Point a Clips ingest source at the vMix recording folder and every finished recording turns up in VRA, ready to cut.
How to set it up.
Requirements
- A Windows PC running vMix, with Web Controller and the TCP API enabled in its settings.
- The VRA Core app on the same network as the vMix machine.
- Every edition connects. The full graphics set uses more than one overlay channel, so it needs the HD edition or above. Camera-angle automation and script triggers need the 4K edition.
- vMix sets its own hardware requirements on top of those for the VRA apps.
In VRA Cloud, open Settings, Advanced, Switchers, add a switcher of type vMix and enter the host and port of the vMix machine.
In vMix, open Settings, Web Controller, and enable it together with the TCP API.
Enable the switcher connection and open the switcher page in VRA Cloud to test it.
vMix questions
Does Visual Radio Assist replace vMix? +
No. vMix keeps mixing the video. VRA sits in front of it and tells it what to do: which input to take, when to show a graphic, when to record. The vMix you already own stays exactly where it is.
Which vMix editions work with VRA? +
Every edition connects, from Basic HD to Max. The full graphics set uses more than one overlay channel, which needs HD or above. Camera-angle automation and script triggers need the 4K edition.
How do VRA graphics get into vMix? +
The VRA Output Player renders the graphics and sends them as an NDI stream. In vMix that stream is one NDI input, used as an overlay. Running the Output Player on the vMix machine keeps that stream off the network.
Can VRA start a vMix recording? +
Yes. VRA commands and rundown items can start or stop recording, streaming and external output in vMix. The Clips recording banner provides recording start and stop controls.
Does vMix need its own machine? +
Not necessarily. Running the VRA Output Player as an NDI output on the vMix machine is the most efficient setup. vMix does add its own hardware requirements on top of the ones for the VRA apps.
StudioCoast
About vMix.
vMix is live video production software for Windows from StudioCoast in Australia. It switches, mixes, records and streams cameras, NDI sources and media files up to 4K, and is sold in editions from Basic HD to Max.
In a visual radio studio vMix is the mixer. Visual Radio Assist is the operator: it decides which input is on air, when a graphic goes over it and when the recording runs, based on the microphones, the rundown and the schedule.
