Bitfocus Companion and Stream Deck control for VRA
Put VRA studio on/off-air control on a Stream Deck button. The documented Bitfocus Companion setup uses generic HTTP requests to your local VRA Core, with button colours updated from its state.
How Bitfocus Companion and VRA work together.
A physical studio toggle
Put the documented on/off-air action under a button that a presenter can reach.
See the reported state
Companion polls VRA Core and updates the button colour using the triggers you configure.
Keep the control connection local
Companion talks to Core on your studio network. It does not need to send the button press through VRA Cloud.
How to set it up.
Requirements
- Bitfocus Companion with a Stream Deck or another compatible control surface.
- Network access to the local VRA Core and its configured authentication.
- A manually configured connection, variables and feedback triggers.
Open the linked Companion setup guide and add a generic HTTP connection to your studio's VRA Core.
Configure the local Core address and its authentication as described in the guide.
Create the state variable and polling trigger, then add the studio toggle button.
Configure the button colour triggers and check that the displayed state follows VRA.
Bitfocus Companion questions
Is there a ready-made VRA Companion module? +
The VRA guide describes a generic HTTP setup that you configure yourself, including variables and polling triggers.
Does this recipe switch cameras or run macros? +
The documented recipe covers studio on/off-air control and state feedback. It does not describe camera switching or macro buttons. Ask us to check the actions you need before planning a control panel.
Bitfocus
About Bitfocus Companion.
Bitfocus Companion connects control surfaces to production software. VRA documents a manual setup using Companion's generic HTTP connection.
The recipe covers a studio on/off-air button and polling for its state. It is not a preconfigured VRA module or a promise of camera, macro and graphics control from that button.
What you can do with this connection
Automated camera switching for radio
Switch cameras from microphone activity and prepare PTZ shots off air.

Inbound HTTP
Send current and upcoming radio automation data to VRA over inbound HTTP. Use the generic JSON format for now-playing graphics and item-based visuals.
MQTT
Connect external studio tools to VRA over MQTT. Read studio state and work with signals using access scoped to the studio and permitted features.
Ember+
Connect Ember+ inputs to VRA studio automation. Discover device paths, map incoming state and use it to trigger camera or graphics actions.
