How Zenon Media and VRA work together.

Now playing without retyping

The VRA template carries the current item, the next two playlist entries and their timing and type fields. A start packet lets VRA initialise the feed cleanly.

Graphics follow the item type

Use the fields your feed supplies to control graphics. Where item type or category is available, you can show different visuals for songs, jingles and commercials.

Zenon posts XML to Core

The connection is an HTTP POST export from Zenon, not a database query. VRA parses the template it generated for this connection.

The link stays local

VRA Core reads the automation feed in the studio, through the connection described below. It shares the resulting now-playing information with VRA Cloud.

How to set it up.

Requirements

Zenon Media with access to the Nowplaying Playlist Export settings.
VRA Core reachable from the Zenon workstation.
The endpoint and XML template generated by the Zenon Media connection in VRA.

Add a Zenon Media automation connection in VRA and copy the endpoint and XML template from its setup screen.
In Zenon, create or edit a Nowplaying Playlist Export and choose Web POST as the destination.
Enter the VRA Core endpoint. Set the content type to application/xml and use multipart/form-data when the Zenon export screen asks for the form encoding.
Paste the VRA template, save the export and enable it.
Advance an item in Zenon and check that VRA receives the current item and the next two entries.

Which Zenon export destination should I use? +

Use a Nowplaying Playlist Export with Web POST as its destination. Copy the endpoint and XML body from the setup guide for the VRA connection.

Does the Zenon integration include upcoming items? +

Yes. The standard VRA template includes the current item and the next two playlist items, so the visual workflow can prepare before the next transition.

Does VRA change the Zenon Media rundown? +

No. The connection is read-only from VRA's point of view. Your radio automation remains the source of the rundown and VRA reacts to the data it sends.

Does the now-playing feed depend on the internet? +

The connection between your radio automation and VRA Core runs locally. VRA Cloud uses an internet connection to show that information in the browser; a local feed does not make browser control available offline.
