Now playing without retyping
The template carries previous, current and next item IDs, title, artist, duration, type, category, start time and in point.
Graphics follow the item type
Use the fields your feed supplies to control graphics. Where item type or category is available, you can show different visuals for songs, jingles and commercials.
One XML feed carries three positions
Caliope posts the previous, current and next playlist positions together. VRA can therefore clear the old visual, show the current one and prepare the next one from a single update.
The link stays local
VRA Core reads the automation feed in the studio, through the connection described below. It shares the resulting now-playing information with VRA Cloud.
How to set it up.
Requirements
- Access to Caliope OnAir's Now Playing/Playlist settings.
- VRA Core reachable from the Caliope workstation.
- The endpoint and XML template supplied by the Caliope OnAir connection in VRA.
Add a Caliope OnAir automation connection in VRA and copy the endpoint and XML template.
In Caliope Radio, open Settings, Now Playing/Playlist and choose the HTTP or HTTPS output.
Enter the VRA Core URL and select XML as the content type.
Paste the VRA template, save the output and enable it.
Start a test item and check that previous, current and next are updated in VRA.

Which Caliope output should I configure? +
Use the HTTP or HTTPS output under Now Playing/Playlist, set its content type to XML and paste the template supplied by VRA.
Does Caliope send more than the current item? +
Yes. The standard VRA template includes previous, current and next, including timing and classification fields for each position.
Does VRA change the Caliope OnAir rundown? +
No. The connection is read-only from VRA's point of view. Your radio automation remains the source of the rundown and VRA reacts to the data it sends.
Does the now-playing feed depend on the internet? +
The connection between your radio automation and VRA Core runs locally. VRA Cloud uses an internet connection to show that information in the browser; a local feed does not make browser control available offline.

About Caliope OnAir.
Caliope OnAir is radio playout software with an HTTP now-playing export. Its playlist template can send previous, current and next item data to VRA Core as XML.
VRA reads the automation feed and never writes back into the playout log. The radio system stays in charge of the sound. Visual Radio Assist uses its metadata to keep the picture in step with the show.
