Radio Playouts
ProppFrexx ONAIR visual radio integration
Update your radio graphics whenever ProppFrexx ONAIR starts a track. VRA receives the current and next item, so your overlays can show what is playing and what comes next.
How ProppFrexx and VRA work together.
Now playing without retyping
The command payload carries metadata for the item that started and the item that follows it, giving VRA enough context for current and upcoming graphics.
Graphics follow the item type
Use the fields your feed supplies to control graphics. Where item type or category is available, you can show different visuals for songs, jingles and commercials.
OnTrackPlay runs the POST
ProppFrexx executes an EXEC_SEND_HTTP_POST action every time a playlist track starts. The command body is generated by VRA and contains the programme fields it expects.
The link stays local
VRA Core reads the automation feed in the studio, through the connection described below. It shares the resulting now-playing information with VRA Cloud.
How to set it up.
Requirements
- ProppFrexx ONAIR with permission to edit playlist event commands.
- VRA Core reachable from the ProppFrexx machine.
- The generated Parameter Data from the ProppFrexx connection screen in VRA.
Add a ProppFrexx automation connection in VRA and copy the Parameter Data generated for it.
In ProppFrexx, open Settings, Events/Commands, Playlist and edit the OnTrackPlay event.
Add a command with the action
EXEC_SEND_HTTP_POST.Paste the VRA Parameter Data and replace the host placeholder with the hostname or IP address of the VRA Core machine.
Save the event, start a test track and confirm that VRA shows both current and next.
ProppFrexx questions
Which ProppFrexx event should trigger VRA? +
Use the Playlist OnTrackPlay event and add an EXEC_SEND_HTTP_POST command. This sends a fresh update at the point a new item becomes current.
What must I change in the generated Parameter Data? +
Replace the host placeholder with the hostname or LAN IP address of the VRA Core machine. Keep the rest of the generated structure intact.
Does VRA change the ProppFrexx ONAIR rundown? +
No. The connection is read-only from VRA's point of view. Your radio automation remains the source of the rundown and VRA reacts to the data it sends.
Does the now-playing feed depend on the internet? +
The connection between your radio automation and VRA Core runs locally. VRA Cloud uses an internet connection to show that information in the browser; a local feed does not make browser control available offline.

About ProppFrexx.
ProppFrexx ONAIR is radio automation software with event commands that can send programme metadata. VRA uses an OnTrackPlay HTTP POST command for each new playlist item.
VRA reads the automation feed and never writes back into the playout log. The radio system stays in charge of the sound. Visual Radio Assist uses its metadata to keep the picture in step with the show.
